2004 vintage:
The 2004 vintage started with a wet spring resulting in good soil moisture. The summer was a hot dry summer before late rain set in. It was an unusual and early season with picking times dictated by pending rain.
Viticulture:
The vines are trelliesed by the VSP method. Crop level was low, at 2.5 t/ac. Attention to vine site location, based on variety preference, canopy management, low cropping levels and hand picking have resulted in our premium wine, displaying intense varietal flavour and elegance.
Maturation and Vinification:
Following de-stemming, the fruit was gently transferred with a high proportion of whole berries into an open top fermentor, where it was cold soaked for 4 days. Fermentation started with a traditional Burgundian yeast and the wine was lightly plunged . The Pinot matured in French barrique, 27% new, for 8 months, completing mlf.
