2004 vintage:
The 2004 vintage started with a wet spring resulting in good soil moisture. The summer was a hot dry summer before late rain set in. It was an unusual and early season with picking times dictated by pending rain.
Viticulture:
The vines are trellised by the VPS method. Crop levels was low, at 1.6 t/ac. Attention to vine site location, based on variety preference, canopy management, low cropping levels and hand picking have resulted in our premium Train Trak wines, displaying intense varietal flavour and elegance.
Maturation and Vinification:
The grapes were crushed and fermented on skins with natural yeast for 10 days before pressing. A short post fermentation maceration was used to enhance flavour and texture. The wine was pressed off, settled and racked to French barriques 30% new, for 8 months, completing mlf. A further 6 months maturation in older barriques followed before final blending.
