Muscat vintage now complete
With the Muscat now picked and the fermentation process underway for the production of this years Moscato, it's time to reflect on the year it was in the vineyard. THis summer saw the second hottest day on record which followed 4 days of intense heat. The Muscat held out on the first heat wave but the second one ( black Saturday ) was devastating to the Muscat crop with losses confirmed at 85% of the expected vintage. Flavour of the remaining crop was fantastic so expect a wonderfully flavoured Summer Moscato this year albeit a small amount.
The Shiraz crop - thankfully - survived the intense heat and only about 20% was lost. Investigation is now underway to minimise future damage in years to come with similar extreme conditions
